Engaging with a Variety of Texts

Students are introduced to a rich selection of texts, including books, digital media, fiction, non-fiction, poems, songs, rhymes, fables, and fairy tales. They are encouraged to experiment with their writing, develop confidence as speakers, and grow as attentive listeners through a range of engaging activities.

Home Reading: A Partnership in Learning

Our Home Reading programme allows students to select texts to enjoy at home with their families. This shared reading time is a rewarding experience that fosters a love of literature, builds an interest in print, and demonstrates that reading can be a fun and relaxing leisure activity.

We encourage parents to:

• Read with and to their children.
• Discuss story elements such as pictures, characters, and tricky words to provide context before diving into the text.
• Celebrate when their child feels confident enough to read aloud—it's a milestone for everyone!

To support this process, Home Reading materials are provided in protective book covers for safe transport.

Collaborative Literacy Learning

We value parental involvement in the classroom and actively encourage families to be part of their child's literacy development. Throughout the year, we offer parent programmes to build a shared understanding of effective literacy practices.
